san jose this morning. people voted for this. >> reporter: people voted for this in november. what's happening today is minimum wage workers in san jose will now make $10 an hour. that's up from $8 an hour. this is the largest minimum wage pay increase in the nation. now, again, voters approved measure d in the fall. that's why the $2 increase is happening. this is of course happy news for the thousands of minimum wage workers in the city. but san jose's mayor is concerned that some businesses might not be able to handle the hike. he is worried people could lose their jobs. >> as the minimum wage goes up, small businesses in particular will make accommodations. some will absorb the cost, some will pass it on to their customers and some will have to decrease jobs and lay people off. >> a campaign is also kicking off today to encourage people to spend their extra money from those earnings in the city. the slogan is, earn and spend in san jose. it will be displayed in business windows. the minimum wage in california is $8 an hour. in san jose, elissa harrington, kpix 5. >> so it's a lit

substitute elementary school teacher is behind bars in san jose today accused of possessing child pornography. new at noon, ktvu's janine de la vega has details on the arrest and the teacher's connection to several bay area schools. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. we just spoke to the superintendent here at the alum rock union school district. he says he's very concerned about this arrest. we were told by a source that the suspect has been a substitute teacherred a every school in the district. i want to show you a letter that we were just given by the superintendent. this letter is gonna go home to parents today explaining the situation. now, at this point, we don't know if any children from san jose are victims. now, let's go to a picture of the suspect. this is 44-year-old nathan forstell. san jose police arrested him yesterday for possession of child pornography. officers served a search warrant at his home and found evidence of child pornography there. nathan forstell is currently a teacher at martin luther king, junior elementary school in seaside.

, this is one of the main runways at san jose's mineta international airport so other flights that need to come in are being delayed as they investigate this situation. certainly if you have plans heading out to the airport if you have a flight later on or you're going to pick somebody up at the airport, call the airline ahead of time to be sure it's not delayed from this incident. >> once again, fire crews at the scene at san jose mineta international airport. it's alaska airlines holding up to 100 people. people have come and gone from the two buses. fire apparatus there but doesn't look like they are dousing the plane by any stretch. we are trying to get more information. we are told that the smell of burnt metal was prevalent outside the plane and perhaps inside. it appears that everyone is safe. >> it does. we don't see any ambulances out there. at the scene since this is going on. this just happened. it could be precautionary. the passengers were taken off the plane. now it appears they are being allowed back here in the plane so this could be a precaution and not a really ba

evidence. just before 7:00 last night san jose police officers in unmarked cars tried to stop the car but the driver of the car started ramming into two police cars and a parked vehicle. the officer got out of their vehicle and that's when the suspect accelerated towards the officer. out of fear for their lives they shot the suspect and one neighbor heard all the chaos while she was eating dinner. >> we heard a car crash and she looked out the window and it was a car crash and we ran outside and we all of a sudden heard a popping sound and i guess it was gunfire. and they had all of their guns drawn and she was telling everybody, go inside, go inside. property in the south bay. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is in san jose this morning where warnings went out several days ago. >> reporter: the city says it gave these people 72 hours notice and today they are planning a clean-up. i'm on spring street in san jose and you can see campers remain on this public property. the clean-up though is set to begin this morning. and the city says it's going up to its police presence here. about 100 people having living in this encampment near the guadalupe parkway river. it's one of an estimated 60 camps throughout santa clara county. this one is in the flight path of the san jose airport so it's been spotted from above and it quickly grew after another sweep of a homeless encampment nearby. >> you move them interest one spot and they pop up in another -- you move them from one spot and they pop up in another. >> it's frustrating but part of the process. we have to be consistent as i said in our application on how we work with people. if we continue to work, i think everyone at the city believes that we will have long-term positive results. >> repor

:03. search is on for two men who followed people from a light rail station in san jose and robbed them. janine de la vega sat station with -- is at the station with a look at the suspects. >> reporter: i am standing in front of the light rail station. police say passengers who were riding the train were followed from here and into a neighborhood about a half a mile away and then robbed. police want to know if you recognize these two men. one of them is black, the other is latino and both appear to be in their 20s. this is surveillance video of the two suspects leaving the train on march 8th. investigators say at 7:30 that night suspects followed victims from a train into the 2700 block. that is where they confronted the victims saying they would shoot if they didn't turn over their property. the suspects robbed the victims and ran away. the first is described as being black, 5'10", 180 pounds with a afro wearing a white t-shirt and white and black plaid shorts. the other is latino 5'8", 180 pounds. he f you have any information about this robbery or if you recognize either of the
